About Storr Trail
Storr Trail – A Journey Through Time and Legend
Nestled within the rugged beauty of the Isle of Skye, the Storr Trail is a gateway to one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks—the Old Man of Storr (*Bodach an Stòr*). Just a short, scenic drive from Portree, this 3.8-kilometre round trip weaves through an ancient, otherworldly landscape shaped by the largest landslip in the UK. Towering above it all is the 55-metre basalt pinnacle of the Old Man, its craggy silhouette instantly recognisable against the Highland skies.
The trail begins at a dedicated car park, leading visitors past the remnants of Storr Woods and onto grassy paths that give way to rocky slopes. Along the way, highlights like the Sanctuary—a surreal basin of jagged rock formations—invite exploration, while sweeping vistas of sea lochs, the Cuillin Hills, and the rugged Trotternish Ridge reward every step. Whether you pause beneath the striking Needle rock or ascend further to the summit of The Storr, the views are unforgettable.
Steeped in folklore and history, the Storr Trail is more than a hike—it’s a journey into Skye’s soul. With legends of giants, faeries, and ancient clans lingering in the air, this landscape brims with mystery and magic. Sturdy boots are a must, as weather and terrain can challenge even seasoned walkers. But for those who venture here, the rewards are as timeless as the land itself.
