This week-long adventure combines the dramatic landscapes of Skye with the wilder, more remote islands of the Outer Hebrides — Harris and Lewis. From the famous Trotternish Peninsula to the prehistoric Callanish Standing Stones and the turquoise waters of Luskentyre Beach, this itinerary offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in Europe.

Day by Day
Day 1: Edinburgh to Skye
Drive north via Loch Lomond and Glencoe for the usual photo stops. Head west through Rannoch Moor and over to Fort William, then continue along the Road to the Isles for the Glenfinnan Viaduct viewpoint. Cross the famous Skye Bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh — stop for photos at Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland's most iconic castles. Overnight in or around Portree, Skye's capital.

Day 2: Trotternish Peninsula, Skye
Spend the day exploring the dramatic Trotternish ridge. Morning walk to the Old Man of Storr (allow 1.5–2 hours return). Continue north along the coastal road to Lealt Falls gorge and Kilt Rock sea cliffs with waterfall. Drive the full Quiraing road — park and walk a section of the Quiraing itself for extraordinary views. End the day in colourful Portree harbour.

Day 3: Skye's West Coast
Head south-west to the Fairy Pools at Glenbrittle for a morning walk through this magical series of turquoise pools. Continue to Talisker Bay for a wild beach walk, or visit Talisker Distillery for a tour and tasting. End the day at Neist Point lighthouse for a sunset worth waking up for.

Day 4: Skye to Harris via Uig Ferry
Morning ferry from Uig (northern Skye) to Tarbert on the Isle of Harris (CalMac, approx. 1h45m — book ahead). Drive south through Harris to Luskentyre Beach, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Continue along the Golden Road through the rocky moonscape of South Harris.

Day 5: Lewis Heritage Day
Cross the Harris/Lewis border and head to the extraordinary Callanish Standing Stones — a 5,000-year-old Neolithic monument older than Stonehenge. Nearby, visit Dun Carloway broch and the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. Afternoon in Stornoway for the Lews Castle grounds or local café culture.

Day 6: Return to the Mainland via Ullapool
Take the CalMac ferry from Stornoway to Ullapool (approx. 2h45m). Arriving on the mainland, drive south through the dramatic Coigach and Assynt landscape. Stop at Corrieshalloch Gorge and the Falls of Measach — a spectacular gorge near Braemore Junction. Continue to Inverness or overnight in Ullapool.

Day 7: Loch Ness & Cairngorms to Edinburgh
From Inverness, drive along Loch Ness — stop at Urquhart Castle or take a short Loch Ness cruise. Head south through the Cairngorms National Park, with optional stops at a Speyside distillery or Aviemore. Continue via Pitlochry for lunch and through Perthshire back to Edinburgh.
