Day by Day
Day 1: Glencoe Walks
Travel from Edinburgh or Glasgow to Glencoe. Walk the Lost Valley (Coire Gabhail) — a moderate 5km circular route through a narrow rocky gorge to a hidden flat valley floor (allow 3 hours). Alternatively, the easier Glencoe Lochan circular is a gentler option through a North American-style forest. Finish the day with views from the Study viewpoint at the head of the glen. Overnight Glencoe village or Ballachulish.

Day 2: Ben Nevis or Glen Nevis
Drive to Fort William. Experienced and fit walkers should attempt the full Ben Nevis ascent via the Mountain Track — 17km return, approximately 1,345m of ascent, allow 7–9 hours. For a shorter day: the Glen Nevis gorge walk to Steall Falls is one of the finest short walks in Scotland — a 3km path through a dramatic gorge to a 120m waterfall, with a famous wire bridge crossing.
Ben Nevis, Steall Falls, Munro
Day 3: Cairngorm Plateau
Drive to Aviemore and head up to the Cairngorm ski area. Experienced walkers: circular walk around Coire an t-Sneachda to the Northern Corries — wild, dramatic mountain scenery above 1,000m. Alternatively, walk the 4 Munros of the Cairngorm plateau (serious navigation and fitness required). Easier option: waymarked trails from the Cairngorm car park with excellent views across Strathspey.
Cairngorms, Munros, Aviemore
Day 4: Forests & Waterfalls, Perthshire
Drive south towards Edinburgh via Pitlochry. Morning walk at The Hermitage near Dunkeld — a short trail through ancient Douglas firs to Ossian's Hall and the Falls of Braan. Visit Linn of Tummel or Queen's View (Loch Tummel) for Perthshire panoramas. Optional stop at Killiecrankie gorge walk before returning to Edinburgh.
